i. Post your claim and reason. “Yes (blah blah) because (blah definition blah).”
Notice that your reason is based on your definition. If you don't define your terms, your classmates have nothing to work with to provide grounds and rebuttals for your argument.
ii. Post your warrant. (Make the logical connection.)
This needs to be explicitly stated, also. Be sure to read the instructions below carefully.
You do not need to create a full paragraph for this post.
We do not want superfluous information, only what will appear in your Toulmin Schema.
If you have already done your post and need to go back and edit it to reflect assignment instructions:

Here is an example of what I'm looking for based on the exercises we have done in class:
Claim: Lil' Wayne is a "skater"
Reason: because he is a male who wears sneakers, such as Vans or Airwalks, likes rock music, skateboards frequently, wears chains on his jeans, and features visible tattoos.
Warrant: American media, as it portrays our culture, confirms that these traits and characteristics are typically attributed to skaters.
Again, your initial post must contain these parts of your argument so that your peers can come to your page and provide you with grounds to support and rebuttals to challenge your argument. This will help you create the Toulmin Schema on which your paper will be based.
Claim- A Baccalaureate degree does not make someone intelligent.
ReplyDeleteReason- because there is multiple interruptions for the word intelligence. It could be meant as book smart, common sense, street smart, or even intelligent in one particular subject.
Warrant- These are reasons why a Baccalaureate degree does not mean that someone is intelligent.
Claim- That an employer would be looking for a person with common sense and analytical skils.
ReplyDeleteReason-Because you would need a person with both skills depending on the situation you are face with in your business.

ReplyDeleteClaim- Job satisfaction is more important than career success.
ReplyDeleteReason- Happiness to doing my job is better than having a career that i don't like also with job satisfaction a person can be more successful at their career.

If an employer is looking for a candidate with “good problem solving skills,” is she looking for common sense or analytical skills?
ReplyDeleteClaim : If an employer is seeking for a employee with good problem solving skills, they are looking for someone with both common sense AND analytical skills.
Reason: You need both common sense and analytical skills because they both work together in order to form goof problem solving habits. Common sense is an ability that most people are born with and can be learned by others. Common sense is basically reasoning based on learned information due to experience. Analytical skills are skills that can be applied to logical thinking and it is used to solve complex situations and make articulate decisions based on visualization.
Warrant: Analytical skills and common sense both complement each other so it is necessary that they both are needed for good problem solving skills.
Claim - An employer looking for a person with "good problem solving skills" is looking for someone with common sense and analytical skills.
ReplyDeleteReason – Having analytical skills is being able to break down a problem and understanding material and evidence. Common sense is natural and innate and sometimes learned through life experience by being observant and perceptive, which gives you “street smarts” and makes a person able to apply analytical skills to any situation.
Warrant – The fact that they compliment each other means that you need both to have good problem solving skills.
Claim- My claim is that earning a baccalaureate degree does not make someone intelligent.
ReplyDeleteReason- There are so many more aspects of intelligence. Intelligence isn't just about knowledge; it's also about experience, things that make us grow in our knowledge. A person will need experience, knowledge, and growth within themselves to truly have intelligence. Common intelligence is also important because without it, we wouldn't be intelligent in every aspect.
Warrant- In order to be intelligent, you also need to possess many more qualities such as street smart, common sense, and book sense.
Claim- Earning a Baccalaureate degree does not make a person intelligent.
ReplyDeleteReason-Being intelligent is more than just book knowledge or being able to solve equations; it's about common sense, analytical skills, experience, and applying that knowledge to the real world in order to succeed.
Warrant- Earning the degree is book knowledge and test taking skills.
Claim- A Baccalaureate degree does not make some more intelligent than someone without one.
ReplyDeleteReason- because there are many different meanings for the word intelligence. it can be anything from book smarts or street smart.
Warrant- book smart, common sense, street smart, and it can be in just one subject or maybe even two.
Claim- Job satisfaction is the most important measure of career success.
ReplyDeleteReason- Job Satisfaction is the content you feel with your job and career success is the achievements or milestones you measure by in your career/job.
Warrant- These are the reasons why people that are happier with their jobs tend to be more successful.
